Data Release Version 1.0.

Thank you for your interest in downloading the Data Release Version 1.0. This dataset captures validated data on Protected Area Downgrading, Downsizing, and Degazettement (PADDD).

This dataset contains data on PADDD from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, spanning from 1900 to 2010. The dataset documents enacted PADDD events (i.e., events that have been passed into law), but does not include proposed PADDD events (i.e., proposed legal changes under formal consideration by government authorities).

Please note that this is not a full list of PADDD events occurring in these regions during this time period, but only those that have been validated following peer review.

In the folder PADDDtracker.org_DataRelease1.0_January2014, you will find:

          PADDDtracker.org_DataRelease1.0_January2014.xlsx: this excel file contains data on all validated PADDD events.

o   Readme tab with summary of data

o   PADDDevents tab contains information about location, dates, causes, etc. on PADDD events

o   SupportingDetails&References tab contains supporting details and references for PADDD events

          PADDDtracker.org_DataRelease1.0_January2014.shp: This shapefile contains point data for all validated PADDD events

o   Please note that events for which exact locations are unknown are represented as points on the capital city of the country. For details, see the README file.

          FieldDefinitions_for_PADDD_Data: contains definitions for fields used in dataset
